Whiteford to serve as House budget chair for remainder of legislative term
RELEASE|September 28, 2022

State Rep. Mary Whiteford today was appointed to serve as House Appropriations Committee chair for the remainder of the Michigan’s 2021-22 legislative session.

Whiteford (R-Casco Township) previously served as vice chair of the committee and has served as chair of the Subcommittee on Health and Human Services for the past three terms.

“It’s an honor to be given this opportunity by Speaker Wentworth to oversee our chamber’s budget committee for the remaining months of the term,” Whiteford said. “I recognize that every dollar at our disposal belongs to the people of Michigan, and I feel a great sense of responsibility to ensure each dollar is spent wisely to make our state an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Although the state has already finalized the fiscal year 2023 budget, which begins on Oct. 1, Whiteford will help lead her House colleagues in deliberating over any necessary budget supplementals that may arise.

“I want to thank Rep. Albert for his leadership of our committee throughout this term,” Whiteford said. “He has been an exemplary steward of the people’s tax dollars and I intend to continue that stewardship throughout the coming months.”
