State Rep. Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) commended the Michigan House of Representatives for passing a balanced, responsible education budget that prioritizes students and fiscal responsibility, while expressing frustration with the Senate’s actions that are holding up the overall budget process.

“The House has done its job by passing a good, balanced K-12 budget that reflects the needs of Michigan families,” said Wozniak, who voted for the House plan on June 11. “Unfortunately, Senate Democrats are stalling the progress and pushing through a budget that is unbalanced. That’s not how responsible government works.”

The House passed its $21.9 billion K-12 budget that includes strategic investments to prioritize student success, academic improvement, and financial transparency. It provides $12,000 in per-pupil funding for every public-school student and allocates $314.5 million in grants to help schools reduce class sizes, improve reading outcomes, consolidate facilities, and enhance infrastructure.

“The people of Michigan expect us to govern,” said Wozniak. “It’s time for the Senate to stop dragging their feet and work with the House to deliver a balanced budget that respects Michigan taxpayers.”
