House Republican Leader Matt Hall has appointed Joseph S. Calvaruso of Comstock Township to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees.

Calvaruso currently serves the community as vice president of the Comstock Township Library Board of Trustees. He and Donna, his wife of 27 years, reside in the township.

The Library of Michigan houses numerous books, newspapers, government records, and other important materials, with an emphasis on preserving Michigan’s state history. The Board of Trustees makes recommendations to the Michigan Department of Education on the budget, administration, and services of the library.

“Joe Calvaruso is a leader in our community, and he will bring experience and a Southwest Michigan voice to the table as he helps oversee the Library of Michigan,” said Hall, R-Richland Township. “His years serving the Comstock Township Library, Albion College, and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation demonstrate his commitment to preserving history and promoting education. After decades in finance, he also knows the importance of fiscal responsibility.”

In addition to his role with the Comstock Township Library, Calvaruso has filled numerous leadership roles throughout his career. After 29 years in banking, he served as executive director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation for 12 years. He joined the Albion College Board of Trustees in 2009 and still serves as a life trustee. Calvaruso led the college as interim president during a critical transition period from 2021 to 2023, when he helped put the institution on a firmer footing and strengthen relationships on campus and in the community.
