Hall celebrates certification of Unlock Michigan initiative
RELEASE|July 13, 2021
Contact: Matt Hall

State Rep. Matt Hall, of Marshall, today celebrated the formal certification of the Unlock Michigan citizens’ initiative.

If approved by the Legislature, the initiative would repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act. The governor used this act to declare an extended state of emergency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a historic day for the people of Michigan,” Hall said. “The Unlock Michigan citizens’ initiative restores the balance of powers in the state of Michigan. The people deserve and have a right to a seat at the table when decisions are made that impact the entire state, its people and economy.”

Hall said the Legislature could take up the initiative next week and he will enthusiastically vote to approve it.

“The people have spoken, this is what they want, and it’s what’s right,” Hall said. “As a legislator I have a duty to ensure the voices of the people are heard, and that’s why I’ll gladly approve this initiative.”

If approved by the Legislature, the Unlock Michigan citizens’ initiative will become law without need for the governor’s signature, and without the possibility of a veto from the governor.
